About

Mark Watkins' Art

Mark Watkins has been a professional graphic artist and illustrator to over 50 years, transitioning to fine art in 2018. His work reflects a lifetime of artistic problem solving in all sorts of media for all sorts of clients.

Art serves many purposes. Throughout history it has been a means of expressing identity, emotions and ideas, telling stories, teaching, and influencing civilizations as well as a means of adding value to products. Photography, mass media and mass production have supplanted the traditional artist in many areas. However, it is still possible, especially with modern creative tools, to create unique and beautiful images that transcend what can be done with photography or traditional artist’s tools. This is Mark’s goal – to continue to explore our marvelous world and create unique, compelling imagery with the greatest attention to detail and beauty.

The Creation Process

While many of the images may appear at first glance to be photographic, they are in fact created using 3D modeling and image editing software. Models are built, textures are created and applied, scenes are created and lit, with camera angle carefully chosen. Next, a high resolution render is created which may take weeks on a powerful computer. Finally, the image is edited to enhance the image as necessary and sent out to a quality art print service for final print.

Serialized Giclée and Metal and Canvas Prints

In order to produce the highest quality art at the most reasonable price while ensuring unique and authentic pieces, each work has been reproduced in limited quantity using archival ink and paper and/or printed on metal or canvas, and numbered and signed by the artist. Numbering is indicated in the lower left as number/edition target total. Metal and canvas prints are printed on-demand and giclée in small batches, so the number on the print will usually be close to the total number printed to date. This also provides an opportunity to improve the render or include variations within the edition, adding to the uniqueness of each print.
